Pendarvis Park Lease Signed

Mast Up Storage at Pendarvis Park is a Reality

Today Commodore Caroline Appis and Club Secretary Asta Poirier joined Martin County Parks and Recreation Director, Richard Blankenship to formally sign the lease agreement between the County and the St. Lucie Sailing Club.  For the first time in its thirty year history the Club will have a physical base of operations to call its own.

Pendarvis Cove Park on the west shore of the South Fork of the St. Lucie River is henceforth the site of the Club’s mast-up boat storage corral.  Alex Jaramillo, also present for the signing has agreed to manage the Pendarvis Park facility for the Club.  Vice Commodore, Sue Thompson’s enthusiastic new member recruitment program is finding the mast-up boat storage capability an asset for local and out-of-town sailors requiring secure storage and easy launching in one location.

With the lease signing now official the Club’s next goal is preselling enough parking spaces to cover monthly rent.  Alex is gathering fence contractor quotes having already marked the perimeter of the corral.  The site plan for the corral was a necessary illustration included in the lease.  Bert Mautz, active in the nearly two years of negotiations and public controversy about the effect the Club’s private interests would have on the Park was also present.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making this happen. This is big, although scary, step forward in growing the club.
