From the Race Captain

Welcome Aboard!

What an active sailing calendar we’ve had this past year – weekly “beer can” races, fleet races on the river and ocean – the new last Saturday-of-the-month “Pirates of Pendarvis” race – a venue for everybody.

We’ve doubled the participation this past year from previous years. We have many new sailboats in the club whose skippers have expressed interest in participating in future sailing events – boats from 12 feet up to 50-plus feet.

Our first race for 2010 will be the Herb Carey/Chuck Reade perpetual trophy regattas for both A Fleet and B Fleet on January 16th in the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. We will need a volunteer for committee boat. Let’s make 2010 a banner year for our racing program! Your input is welcome for improving our racing venues or ways to promote participation for the coming year. Mark your calendars for a skipper’s meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 4th, prior to the general membership meeting.

If you hold the Herb Carey/ Chuck Reade regatta on Jan 16, it will conflict with the Flying Scot District regatta being held at the Sailing Center and you will potentially lose a significant portion of your A fleet. It seems like you could have selected a better date.
