Racing

The 5th Annual Castaways Cup Regatta is being held September 12-13, 2009. Racing will be (a) pursuit start from Palm Beach Inlet to St. Lucie Inlet on Saturday, with an overnight at the Mariott, Hutchinson Island; and (b) a regulation class start on Sunday, racing back.

Check out their web site at http://www.castawayscup.org for all the details, Notice of Race and release and registration forms. Questions, call their chief handicapper and PRO, Gordon Rowse, 561/358-3709.

I talked with Gordon this evening, and they would be delighted to have some boats from SLSC join in the fun.

Their fleet is made up of boats 25 feet to 45 feet.

To non-boat owning members:  Would you like to go sailing some afternoon but you do not own a sailboat?

Several members with sailboats have offered to take members without sailboats out for a sail at a mutually agreeable time.  If this sounds like fun, give me a call at (772) 621- 4670 or send an email to Loubevier@aol.com with your name, phone number, and when you might like to go and I will set up a date.

SLSC is a club for sailors, not just boat owners.  Lou Bevier

A few of us have started gathering at The North End of the North Fork on Wednesday Nights for some Beer Cannning.  We are in the process of drawing up the rules, but plan to have a multi-race series over the summer and have some kind of prize at the end.  We are going to make the series open to anyone who is interested (Club member or not).  We hope to attract some attnetion and maybe some new members.  The start finsh line is the channel markers in front of Sandpiper Marina (Club Med) and the other marks are permanent markers.

Start Time is 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.  Monitor Channel 71 for directions. After race discussions at Tiki Bar at Sandpiper.  Hope to see you there.

Tom Thompson (Soon Reach)  presents Ken Kroll (Mo' Hedo) with the Catch-up Award. Or is it Ketchup Award?  Seems Ken insist on spotting the fleet anywhere from several minutes to a couple of hours, and then trying to run them down during the Cerulean Race.  Nice job Tom.
