FROM THE RACE CAPTAIN

Five Minutes!

Wow, it's already February!  Another Herb Carey and Chuck Reade Regatta is in the books.  A special thanks to Eleanor Epler, Brenda Koncoski, and my wife Ann for helping with the race committee chores.  In the A-Fleet, with four races run, there were three different winners. When all the dust had settled, Bill Whittaker and the crew on Dorado commanded two wins and the overall points lead. Bill Baxter skippered Mutineer to second place, while Steve Garrett and Echo rounded out the top three.  Dennis Heretick skippered Phoenix to fourth followed by Palmer Epler on Blue Blazer in fifth. For the rest of the fleet and the detailed results of each race, be sure to visit the Race page on the website.

In the B-Fleet, there was some confusion about the ratings used and I heard at least one boat and maybe more boycotted the race. That is a shame. This race has historically used the Club Handicapping system and that system has not changed for some time. The historical significance is discussed in the roster.   The results of the Herb Carey Regatta are: Dave Knepper on Rum Runner in first place, Fran Clark on Joy in second, Jesse Jagoda on Sailsman in third, and Alex Meyer on Nemesis in fourth.

On February  11th, we will be holding the Sweetheart Regatta.  So ladies, get your crew together and show the men how it’s done. Remember, there has been a rule change to the ladies races, the helm person only has to be a female. She does not have to be a member of the club. Mike Koverman has graciously volunteered to be the Race Committee.  Remember, we have started a new Boat of the Year run, so be sure and pick a race to be the Race Committee. It’s worth 15 points.

See you all on the water,

John
